Before Islam, Arabia was neither empty nor isolated. Pastoral tribes, farming communities and trading towns lived beside one another. Incense routes and maritime exchange connected parts of the peninsula with the Mediterranean, East Africa and the Indian Ocean. Kinship could offer protection and belonging; markets brought people beyond their own circle. Our journey begins with these existing lives, skills and relationships.
