Begin beside the well
Indus civilisation · c. 2600–1900 BCE
Five windows into the Indian subcontinent: early cities, searching voices, careful living, shared learning and spiritual encounter. A selective journey across lands that today include India, Pakistan and neighbouring countries.
Our path begins in the Indus civilisation, across parts of present-day Pakistan and northwestern India. Between about 2600 and 1900 BCE, large cities belonged to a wider world of farming settlements and skilled workshops. Wells, brickwork and drainage reveal practical knowledge woven into daily life. Before we meet a named philosopher, we meet the people who made living together possible.
